Motorsport Onboard Cameras

Whilst onboard video footage has become a standard feature in high-profile motorsport events, delivering this content seamlessly is far more challenging than it appears.

Domo Broadcast Systems’ world-class technology overcome these challenges, and our solutions are trusted by the most prestigious global motorsport series, including the World Rally Championship, World Endurance Championship, and Formula E.

APPLICATIONS

Multi-camera support, live playback, and advanced race communications

Our technology provides you with support for multiple cameras per car, capturing every angle of the action. With onboard recording and instant live playback, race directors never miss a moment.

Thanks to our advanced multi-way MRC diversity receivers, we deliver reliable coverage across even the most demanding circuits, such asLe Mans, using a surprisingly low number of receive antennas. This means more-efficient deployments — without compromising performance.

Our solutions are fully modular and highly flexible. Beyond live video, our systems also support critical race functions, including driver communications, vehicle telemetry, real-time positioning data, race control alerts, and safety messaging.

At the heart of it all is our bespoke software platform, providing complete control over every element of the system, from camera feeds to communication channels, ensuring seamless integration and total reliability.

Formula E

Domo Broadcast Systems was chosen as the exclusive supplier of onboard technology for Formula E, providing them with a powerful and comprehensive video and communication solution.

Each car is equipped with nine live cameras, featuring seamless switching, director’s assist video, onboard recording, and over-the-air playback. Our system also includes advanced transmission and camera control software, along with a critical safety feature: a dedicated live video feed from every car directly to Race Control.

What makes Formula E truly unique is the sheer number of cameras per car. Transmitting all feeds simultaneously to the OB compound would be impractical. Instead, our onboard recording and instant playback solution allows the production team to access any angle on demand, delivering unparalleled storytelling power and the most immersive race footage possible.

World Rally

Domo Broadcast Systems provides the onboard systems for the World Rally Championship, delivering a complete solution that includes in-car video, trackside cameras, aircraft relay, and downlink reception. Our technology is designed to support both world-class broadcast video and vital safety operations in one of the most demanding motorsport environments.

Each rally car is fitted with four cameras, with seamless switching, simultaneous transmission of all feeds, and onboard recording with over-the-air playback. This ensures that every stage of the action is captured and accessible in real time or on demand.

To overcome broadcast challenges imposed by the terrain, each car transmits its video and data to a relay aircraft. The aircraft receives, multiplexes, and retransmits the signal to the OB truck on the ground. This airborne link enables continuous, high-quality coverage even in the most remote locations.

GPS data from the cars plays a critical role, supporting dynamic antenna tracking and ensuring fast, accurate response by safety crews in case of an incident. Additionally, a return link from the aircraft to the cars provides system control and two-way communication, allowing full remote management during the stage.

World Endurance

Domo Broadcast Systems provides fully customised onboard systems for the World Endurance Championship, delivering live transmission, onboard recording, and playback from four cameras per car.

We were proud to be part of the historic 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, and the scale of our involvement has only grown. By 2025, 37 cars were transmitting live video simultaneously, showcasing the power and reliability of our technology on one of motorsport’s biggest stages.

Covering the world’s most iconic endurance race is a monumental challenge. The vast size of the circuit, the diversity of vehicles, and the volume of simultaneous video feeds make Le Mans one of the most complex broadcast environments in global motorsport.

When the pressure is on and performance is critical, the world’s top race organisers turn to Domo Broadcast Systems.
